Partners

The existence of the Youth Alive! Kenya as an organisation and the effective realisation of our objectives has been through taking stock of existing projects working on a similar vision to share experiences and transfer skills. This has been possible by forging partnerships with other players directly or indirectly working with young people. Since there are others with a similar vision, we are always committed to partnering with them with similar work in as far as our objectives permit. Our past and present networks and partners who have continued to place us strategically to effectively develop and implement our projects include:

YAK-KIOS Partnership Programme

Youth Alive! Kenya and KIOS (The Finnish Foundation for Human Rights) rolled out a partnership programme in July 2008 that aims to identify and support community based human rights groups to harness their full potential and become key human rights actors in their region and ultimately nationally. The central aspects of the programme are networking the participating groups with each other and with other relevant institutions in the country (whether governmental or non-governmental), and providing individualised training and mentoring on issues that will be identified together with the participating groups.

The pilot groups to be chosen in this programme are community based groups that have shown unique commitment to advancing human rights in their communities and who have capacity and drive to become significant human rights advocates in a wider context. The partnership programme has just concluded its pilot year successfully engaging eight (8) groups from across Kenya.

The partnership programme is currently on second year of implementation and has just concluded selection of eight (8) community-based human rights organizations to be involved in the 2009-2010 programme year. The idea of this new programme is to get more involved in the grassroots work and share the knowledge accumulated by both YAK community partners and KIOS funded projects over the years. Besides supporting smaller human rights actors the idea is to also enhance networking between all KIOS project partners in Kenya while allowing Youth Alive! Kenya to strengthen its youth-serving partners.
